How to configure library mode in XBMC Apple TV 2G ( movie covers, title, genre) Part 2

Now highlight library and press and hold Menu button.

Click button Left and highlight Library Mode

To get the xbmc to create the library properly always put the movie in the directory with the name and the year of the movie.
Let’s say you have file Armyofdarkness.avi. Stick it to the folder called Army of Darkness (1992)
as it appears in imdb.com http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/
Let’s say xbmc didn’t get the movie right. No problem. Look at this case. The movie here is a The Dark City 1998 but the XBMC detected it as The Director’s Cut as the folder is called The Dark City – The Director’s Cut (1998)
We can fix it quickly:

In the next post I will show how to configure TV Shows and Music library
How to configure library mode in XBMC Apple TV 2G ( movie covers, title, genre) Part 1
So you got yourself XBMC installed and you would like to get the XBMC to automatically download movie and tv shows covers, casts, synopis and rating. Like on the image below:

Well, XBMC has something that is called Library Mode which I will show how to configure.
What we need to do is:
1. Add shared directory with movies (local or remote). If you haven’t done it yet check this tutorial:
http://arturito.net/2011/10/20/how-to-add-network-drive-nas-storage-or-windows-share-in-xbmc/
2. Install IMDB scrapper.
*IMDB scrapper is a plugin that will download movie information and cover from imdb.com
3. Set content
Let’s install the scrapper:

Now with the scrapper installed we can start setting up content.

How to Find firmware version of Apple TV 2G (software and system version)
In this article I will explain versions of Apple TV as it comes very confusing to some users.
The Apple TV device runs the operating system called iOS.
On this operating system runs Apple TV software system.
Imagine that it is like Microsoft Windows running Windows Media Player.
That’s why Apple TV 2G comes with two “version” numbers.
Software Version – which is also called firmware version.
We can find it under Settings > General > About and see “Software Version”
System Version – which is the version of iOS.
We can find it under Settings > General > About by clicking once on “Software Version”
For example Apple TV Software Version 4.2 runs on iOS version 4.3
How to add network drive (NAS storage) or windows share in XBMC

Apple TV 2G Untethered Jailbreak And XBMC Installation iOS 4.3 working
This tutorial is out of date. It worked for people who had Apple TV 2 with 4.1.1 and accidentally updated to 4.2.1.
Please follow these instructions instead:
http://arturito.net/2011/04/09/apple-tv-2g-untethered-jailbreak-and-xbmc-installation-ios-4-3-with-sn0wbreeze/
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
My friend accidently updated his Apple TV 2G to version 4.2.1 (2100) iOS 4.3 which removed jailbreak and XBMC I put for him before with version 4.1.1.
I wrote this tuorial: http://arturito.net/2011/04/09/apple-tv-2g-untethered-jailbreak-and-xbmc-installation-ios-4-3-with-sn0wbreeze/
which deals with iOS 4.3 and installs XBMC. All installs well but…. we all got audio device error and could not play MKV files.
I turned to Seas0nPass and PwngeTool but it had the same problem.
But thanks to users comments especially Fluxx and Czechmarty I managed to fix it.
I still don’t know how I managed to restore to previous version without SHSH blobs ………but I did. I assume that if Apple TV firmware version shows 4.2.1 (2100) the iOS must be 4.3.
I asked question on XBMC forums in order to confirm that.
http://arturito.net/2011/04/12/apple-tv-2g-untethered-jailbreak-and-xbmc-installation-ios-4-3-working/
All replies I got confirmed that 4.2.1 (2100) for ATV2 is iOS 4.3.1
Well let’s start:
Download:
1. iTunes 10.2.1 – might work with newer version but this is waht I tried and worked for me.
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=71
2. Apple TV Fimrware 41.1 (iOS 4.2.1)
http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/061-9978.20101214.gmabr/AppleTV2,1_4.2.1_8C154_Restore.ipsw
3. Uninstall your current version of iTunes and install version 10.2.1
4. Fire iTunes, connect Apple TV with USB cable only. Let Windows install all drivers.
5. Once you see Apple TV in iTunes hold Shift and click Restore.
6. Select AppleTV2,1_4.2.1_8C154_Restore.ipsw and wait until it completes
7. Go to this post

and jump to point 1 (Running GreenPois0n)
Apple TV 2G Untethered Jailbreak And XBMC Installation iOS 4.3 With Sn0wBreeze
UPDATE: 10.01.2012
As you can see this post is quite old now so this method might not work for you as Apple keeps updating their Apple TV 2G.
Please find out first which version of Apple TV 2G you have. To get this info check this one:
http://arturito.net/2011/11/30/how-to-find-firmware-version-of-apple-tv-2g-software-and-system-version/
If your System Version is greater than 4.3 instructions in this tutorial won’t work for you. Shortly I will be posting an update.
If your System Version is 4.3 you can go ahead:
In one of my previous post I explained how to jailbreak Apple TV 2G and install XBMC on it.
This has been some time ago and it worked for Apple TV2G version 4.1.1 and below. I used GreenP0ison RC6.
Since then Apple has release version 4.2.1 (iOS 4.3) and GreenP0ison can’t do the jailbreak of this version. I’ve heard that Sn0w Breeze can jailbreak the latest (4.3) Apple TV 2G software version and I have decided to try it:
What we need is:
1. iTunes installed
2. iREB-r4
3. sn0wbreeze-v2.5.1
4. AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F202_Restore.ipsw
You can google these or simply download zip file with all files apart from iTunes:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=96Y7FUVR
1. Unpack it all and run iREB-r4. Connect only USB cable.

2. Click on Apple TV2

3. Once in DFU mode you will get this:

4. Ok so before we go to iTunes and do Restore let’s prepare firmware. Let’s launch Sn0wBreeze :

5. Clicking in the link to download IPSWs didn’t work for me so that’s why we got firmware downloaded before. Click on Browse and point to the firmware file: AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F202_Restore.ipsw

6. Hit Continue and be patient. It might take sometime

7. In your desktop there should be file called: sn0wbreeze_Apple TV 2-4.3.ipsw. Hit OK.

8. You should get this message:

9. Now got your iTunes and in the right sidebar select Apple TV

10. Hold SHIFT button and press Restore
11. Select sn0wbreeze_Apple TV 2-4.3.ipsw located on your Desktop and wait until the process is complete.
12. Now when you connect Apple TV2G to your TV you should get NitoTV . To install XBMC go to
and jump to step 4.
Before leaving any questions in comments please post your System and Software Version. You can get that information by following this guide:
Good Luck!

How to change time zone on Apple TV 2G
On the jailbreaked Apple TV 2 login as root using ssh.
find / -name localtime
it should come up with
/private/var/db/timezone/localtime
now got to this directory
cd /private/var/db/timezone/
remove link
rm localtime
and create new one for example in my case Madrid.
ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Madrid localtime
to get your time zone
check what’s available in
cd /usr/share/zoneinfo/
Reboot and that should be it.
Apple TV 2 XBMC installation dkg was interrupted, you must manually run dpkg –configure –a to correct the problem
In the artice below I described how to install XBMC on Apple TV 2.
Some users reported errors while installing XBMC on Apple TV 2.
In the step 5 where we go to NitoTV > Install Software > XBMC-ATV2
Apple TV 2 downloads XBMC, reboots and XBMC does not appear in the menu or this error appears:
E: dkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘dpkg –configure –a’
To correct the problem follow these steps:
1. Find out the IP address of the APTV2 in Settings >Network
2. If you are on Windows download Putty http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe (it is ssh client)
3. Launch Putty and in Host Name (or Ip Address) enter the IP address of Apple TV 2 for example 192.168.1.24
4. If you get message about encryption click Yes
5. You will get login screen. As user type in root and as password alpine
6. Launch the following command:
apt-get install wget wget -O- http://apt.awkwardtv.org/awkwardtv.pub | apt-key add - echo "deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org/ stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list apt-get update apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
If by any chance you get error exit status 1
1. Run commands:
apt-get remove org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 --fix-missing
2. XBMC should appear in Apple TV 2 Menu.
If you still get the problem the best idea is to do Restore thorugh iTunes and start the process again.
For some reason restore and installation worked for many.
Good Luck
Cheap Multiroom Media Center System with Apple TV and XBMC
Many people look for cheap multiroom media solutions. There are many options. In this article I would like to share what media center system I have built and how reliable it has been so far.
Firstly, I started with my living room. I’ve already had plasma TV and audio amplifier with 5.1 speaker system. All I needed was some sweet media center and storage for my films, music and pictures. As storage I went for NAS Storage Synology DS110j. Honestly, forget NAS systems from WD, LinkStation and Netgear. I have read a lot of comments about NAS products before buying one and a lot of people always had some problems with these.Synology though has good reputation amongst its users and there is no mistake – this product is great!I bought 2TB hard drive and installed it in the NAS. Created shares and uploaded content to it.
What about media center? Well, I’ve always been big fan media center software and I have tried few. At the begging I had PC with Windows Media Centre 2005 hooked up to the TV. Not a good solution. Big case and fan noise. Also, I didn’t like Windows Media Centre. It didn’t support many file formats, subtitles and I got windows errors while watching films too many times. I moved to XBMC and it became my best friend!. I strongly recommend trying it. It has so much to offer!
What most I like about it is:
- haven’t found video or audio format xbmc doesn’t support
- multiple subtitles in various formats
- allows me to add content from various sources : windows and linux shares , UPnP AV ….
- choice of skin
- allows me to stream content directly from internet (youtube, megavideo)
Some months later I took PC out and put first generation of Xbox with XBMC on it. I didn’t have to wait for PC to boot up and shutdown anymore. Xbox was ready in about 5 seconds and I could just shut it down with 1 button click just as DVD player. It served me well until I got Apple TV 2 and installed XBMC on it.
This is what I came up with:

And what you get is this:
